Yasuo Kuwahara, one of the most awarded and performed mandolinists in the World, left us on december, 6th, 2003. We established with him along fourteen years a straight relationship, through unforgetable musical and personal exchanges which have enriched us as musicians.

After his exitus, we thought about perform his original compositions as the best tribute to him, and that’s what we tried to do in his anniversary: to memorize in a sincere tribute his music and personality.

YASUO KUWAHARA (1946-2003)

Yasuo Kuwahara has learned the art of mandolin from Prof. Kinuko Hiruma since1965, and he came into his force as a player from early days. His excellent performance has been most warmly appreciated by many critics as well as audience.

His repertory covers the wide field of European music, classic and modern. And his musicality is highly esteemed as well as his his prominent technique as a player. This is moved by the fact that many composers have dedicated their compositions to Kuwahara.

Since his debut at Manheim in Europe in 1982, and at Providence U.S.A. in 1983, his performance as well as his compositions has more and more gained the high esteem from the professional musicians around world. Now, his musical activity is not only in Japan, but also in Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Australia, Russia,  U.S.A. and of course Spain, during some years in Festival de Plectro de La Rioja.

As a composer, his most of pieces has been published especially in Germany. Now he is a very successful mandolin player and composer.

Besides he was the Head of Kuwahara Mandolin Institute and Lecturer of Nara national Women's College, he worked as the Chairman of Japan Association of Music Exchange(*1), the member of Japan Association of Contemporary Music, The Jury for the Mandolin Solo Competition in Japan and Russia.

(*1) Japan Association of Music Exchange : this is a host organization of "Kobe International Music Festival" and "Kobe International Modern Music Festival".


ENSEMBLE PHILMUSICA

The Mandolin Ensemble founded on Christmas Eve in 1975 leaded by Yasuo Kuwahara who is well known the world over as a composer and performer. 15 members consisted of a Soloist or an offices worker or a student are active as a mandolin music lover.
They pursue a well-balanced and clear tones, and mainly play on Emberger Mandolin. Their repertoire is not only Mandolin Music but also the other field of Music which is "good for mandolin".

Yasuo Kuwahara who founded and leaded The Ensemble passed away in December 6, 2003. They decide to continue The Ensemble, and Ayako Yokota who is Mandolinist leads it from 2004. They are determined to maintain Yasuo's will, and continue to play not only his works but also new repertoire actively. They hope that many people love their music and also keep to hold promising concerts.
